Engagement Fatigue is Here
When you're scrolling socials, do you ever find that engaging with content now takes soooo much work?
Like. Share. Follow. Save. Comment. Screenshot. Reshare.
You're not alone. We're simply consuming so much content that it's taking more effort than it ever has before. Why hit the Follow button on an account when it's already being suggested to me in reels? I just DM'd this reel to a friend, so who am I hitting the Like button for?
There is a mental toll associated with engaging on social media, and standard metrics are generally suffering for it. Facebook interactions are down 80%, and Instagram is trending at an average 0.43% engagement rate.
As a business, motivating your audience to engage with your content is harder than it's ever been.
The good news is, it doesn't mean your audience isn't there. They're still consuming your content - just differently.
Plus, platforms are beginning to adjust their ranking system to account for this shift. For example, Instagram now ranks story completion rates (as in, number of complete views of your story) higher than comment rates. Likes and comments are no longer top priority indicators.
Some tactics to try:
Seek out potential clients in DMs. If you see a like or comment from one of your potential clients, follow-up with a personalized message.
Same thing with shares. If someone shares your content, personally thank them in a message. It goes a long way!
Explore and join specialized community groups on Facebook or LinkedIn. Share your content periodically for added reach.
Utilize polls (make it simple!) to drive engagement.
As always, I'm here to help.
